CORNISH QUEEN PARTY!
Date:
Sat, Aug 6th, 2011 -
Sun, Aug 7th, 2011
Location:
Driftwood Spars, St Agnes, Cornwall.
August 9th will mark 40 years since Queen played a pub called The Driftwood Spars (http://www.driftwoodspars.co.uk), in St Agnes, Cornwall. So I thought about time we had our first ever Cornish Queen party, to mark the occasion! So do join us on August 6th (nearest I could get!) at The Driftwood Spars, for a party!!
The party will coincide with the St Agnes Festival, so the town will be bustling all day - our event will begin about 3pm on 6th, at the pub, with videos, and special guests:
Rupert White, who is writing a book on Queen's early history in Cornwall, (this will be on sale)
Dave Dowding (Beat Unlimited/Cousin Jacks)
Neil Battersby (Driver for The Reaction: has recording of Reaction playing live that he can play on the original tape player)
Geoff (Ben) Daniel (Reaction and lived with Roger in Sinclair Gardens)
Roger Brokenshire (Reaction)
Sue Johnstone (Jayfolk and Queen Fan Club)
Jill Johnson (Jayfolk, Famous Jug Band, Roger's girlfriend)
Penny North (Jayfolk - visited Ferry Road and organised gigs for Queen)
Mike Grose (PJ's and Queens first bassist)
We are hoping to also stage a small exhibition of memorabilia provided by local fans. I am sure we can throw in a Jim Jenkins quiz too, with a couple of good prizes! Then in the evening we have live music provided by the excellent Stillyano (http://stillyano.moonfruit.com/) - a mix of Queen, classic rock and their own great music, and a Queen disco! The pub does good food, and we have a late bar for our party. If you decide to stay overnight, then I might arrange a picnic on the beach (a stones throw from the pub) - if enough people are interested then the lovely folks at the pub have said they will provide sandwiches etc for us (you will have to pay for your own, but they will supply them!). But I guess all that depends on the summer weather!! Rupert has agreed to host a "Queen Tour" of Truro on Sunday too, if enough people are interested (this will be a walking tour taking in places of Queen interest).
Tickets are £15.00 each (under 16's free, but must be out of the pub by 9pm) plus £1 PER ORDER postage (or a good old SAE if you pay with a cheque!). You can send me a cheque, payable to The Queen Fan Club, P.O.Box 141, West Horsley, Surrey, KT24 9AJ. You can email or call with your card details (a 50p card charge will be added per order), or you can send a paypal payment (please add £1 PER ORDER) for their charges. This is a very small venue - just 120 people, so book EARLY to avoid disappointment!
I am sure it will be a great day/weekend, I'm looking forward to it already!
