Queen Open Rock Time Capsule InTheStudio : Roger Taylor, Brian May Discuss Live At The Rainbow ’74

Dallas, TX - September 3, 2014. North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Bands takes the wrapper off Queen Live at the Rainbow ’74, a rock time capsule of an embryonic band making the leap from London cult band to stadium filler.
Forty years ago when a young London quartet called Queen headlined the venerable Rainbow Theater there, recording the performance on audio and film was a daunting task, both technologically and financially. Live recording then was much more art than science, no do-overs, no digital tricks, nowhere to hide.
After two studio albums and a trial-by-fire legendary US tour supporting lovable Mott the Hoople, Queen was ready to reign over the Rainbow Theater, and in late March of 1974 they nailed it. The performance was so strong that the band would return in November of that year to play two more sold-out shows in support of their third album Sheer Heart Attack.

Queen drummer Roger Taylor explains to InTheStudio host Redbeard how during preparation for the band’s most recent 2013/2014 tour the Rainbow concert tapes resurfaced.

,
“I had a copy of the Rainbow live... in my car. I was on my way to rehearsal on the first day and I said to Brian, ‘These tracks are great!’ I forgot that we were a really heavy band.”
Guitarist Brian May continues,
“There weren’t any tricks to be had. It’s all live and dangerous, as it is now with us. We knew what we were doing in those days. We were very clear and we were very well oiled in a sense; we knew each other very well.”
